WHAT ARE THE HISTORY BOOKS NOT TELLING US? IS THAT HAT ALIVE?
DOES A TALKING SNAKE KNOW MORE ABOUT MY PROVINCE THAN I DO?

A couple of hucksters from a bygone era roll into town to regale the public with strange and surprising "true" tales inspired by this province's colourful past. An absurdist take on local history- with puppets!

SNAKE AND MCGONNIGAL'S MOVING MUSEUM OF MANITOBA is the theme for this year's Winnipeg Puppet Slam: a puppet variety show for adults featuring original acts from the fringes of the performing arts that will challenge your notions of what puppetry can be!

WHAT IS THE WINNIPEG PUPPET SLAM?

The Winnipeg Puppet Slam is an annual event that showcase new short works of puppetry for adults by local and international performers in order to expose this under-appreciated art form to new audiences and help create a sense of community among puppet artists. Puppeteers of all kinds present short form pieces, in a similar style to a poetry slam, but noncompetitive and un-juried. It is an opportunity for all skill or performance levels to put on a show among a supportive group of people.

Previous performers include Marsian, Adhere & Deny, The Watch & Spectacle Puppet Company, The Secondhandpants, 6, The Wishweweres, The Wishes Mystical Puppet Company, X, Emily Baxter, Signifipedia Puppets, Jazz On A String, Mind of a Snail, Prominent Chin, The Abdominal Ben Dyck, Willow Dekker and Heather Henson.

The Winnipeg Puppet Slam started in 2010 following the Plastic Paper animation festival, when visiting puppeteer Heather Henson (daughter of Jim Henson) of Ibex Puppetry hosted a premiere of new puppet-based work. She introduced a group of local performers to each other and encouraged them to develop their own puppet slam.
